WE FINALLY GOT TO BREAK OUT THE GOLDEN SHOVELS!

October 30th 2024

By Madison Hatfield

Yesterday, October 29th, at 11:30 a.m., the Baker County YMCA took an exciting step forward by breaking ground for our new Family Center—a milestone that carries over a hundred years of YMCA history. The timing of this groundbreaking holds special significance: on October 24, 1912, our original location (now the VFW Building) was officially dedicated, and by pure coincidence, we began pouring concrete for this new expansion on the same date, 112 years later.

For more than a century, the Baker County YMCA has been dedicated to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. From swim lessons and wellness programs to youth sports and teen leadership, the YMCA has always served as a foundation for building a strong, thriving community.

After more than a decade in our current facility, this Family Center expansion marks our next big step. It will create essential space for youth programs, community events, and allow us to continue growing in our mission to support Baker County families. We’re actively seeking community partnerships and collaborations that will extend the YMCA’s impact beyond our walls, bringing wellness and growth opportunities to families who might not otherwise have access to these essential programs.

Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday, and to our community for your ongoing support. We invite you to follow along on this journey and help us reach our Capital Campaign goal of $135,000 to make this vision a reality.
